Born in the western part of India in 1947. Graduated as Mechanical Engineer in 1970 and began his career with Aluminum & Heavy Engineering Industries.

Started career in insurance industry in 1974 in National Insurance Company, Kolkata, one of the State owned non-life insurance company in India and later
posted at divisional/ regional offices at Hyderabad, Patna & Orissa. Handled inspections of large industrial risks for underwriting, processing of claims & loss
minimisation measures, PML assessment for reinsurance for Fire & Engineering.

Was in-charge of overseas operations of National Insurance Company’s Singapore Branch for three years and was also instrumental in formation of India
International Insurance Pvt. Ltd., a joint initiative of General Insurance Corporation of India and Indian State-owned non-life insurance companies in Singapore.
Having handled different portfolios at various offices of National Insurance Company, was posted as Assistant General Manager in Tariff Advisory Committee,
Delhi in 1996.

Joined General Insurance Corporation of India in 1998 as Assistant General Manager in Technical Department and was promoted as General Manager in
2000. As General Manager, handled Reinsurance, Publicity, Information Technology and Finance Departments of the Corporation

Took over as Chairman-cum-Managing Director of General Insurance Corporation of India in February 2005.
