Tijuca Rain Forest Jeep Tour & Picnic

Experience an open jeep tour of the world’s largest urban forest, the Tijuca Rain Forest.  Home to hundreds of species of plants and wildlife - -many of which are threatened by extinction and found only in the Mata Atlantica ecosystem - - the Tijuca Rain Forest was restored by a prolific reforestation program in the late 19th century after being destroyed to make way for coffee farms.  Experience a living rain forest with a picnic lunch and a brief and easy nature walk which offers a chance to spot monkeys, toucans, butterflies, and tropical flora. You'll be amazed by the remarkable contrast of this tropical haven which rests amid the pulsating city of Rio de Janeiro.

The Smile City

Niterói, nicknamed "The Smile City", sits just across Guanabara Bay and features the largest number of works from renowned Brazilian architect, Oscar Niemeyer.  Tour one of his most famed projects, the Museum of Contemporary Art which includes works by Antonio Dias, Artur Barrio, Abraham Palatnik and other famous Brazilian artists.  Enjoy lunch at Niemeyer-designed Olimpo, perched over the beach and offering dramatic views of Rio.  Visit the imposing Fortaleza Santa Cruz da Barra, founded by the French in 1555 and located at the tip of the promontory that dominates the east entrance of the Bay. After the expulsion of the French by the Portuguese, the fortress received its current name and became an intricate part of the strategic defense of the bay.  You’ll have plenty of reasons to smile in Niteroi with beautiful beaches, historic forts and a world-class museum.
