A graduate in Law from the Autonomous University in Madrid (Class of 1979) and a State-Qualified Insurance Inspector, Pilar González de Frutos was Director-General for Insurance between January, 1997, and November, 2002. Some of the other responsibilities she has held in her career, always closely tied to the insurance sector, include the position of Operations Director at the Insurance Compensation Consortium. Supervisory Tasks with Insurance Institutions, 1980-1983.

Deputy Technical Operations Director at the Consortium for Insurance Compensation, 1983-1988.

Operations Director at the Consortium for Insurance Compensation, 1988 to January, 1997.

Director General for Insurance (Government of Spain), January, 1997 to November, 2002.

President of UNESPA since June 30th, 2003

In additional, she is Vice-president of the CEOE, the Spanish Confederation of Employers' Organizations (CEOE), founded in 1977, is the major representative institution of the Spanish business community. And she is member of the Advisor Board of CNMV, the Comisión Nacional del Mercado de Valores, the agency in charge of supervising and inspecting the Spanish Stock Markets and the activities of all the participants in those markets.
