Mr. Kang is the Deputy Governor of the FSS and also Head of the FSS’ Insurance Supervision Division. He is in charge of supervising Korea’s insurance market and insurers to enhance the financial soundness of insurers, ensure market stability, and protect the interests of consumers. Prior to his current position, he served as the Director General of the Insurance Examination Department from 2006 to May 2008, during which he was in charge of the examination of non-life insurers in Korea.

Deputy Governor Kang has spent most of his professional career in insurance supervision and has extensive experience ranging from insurance underwriting to reinsurance supervision. He began his career in insurance supervision in 1982 at the Insurance Supervisory Board where he supervised risk underwriting for Korean construction companies operating in the Middle East as well as the reinsurance operations of Korean insurers. The Insurance Supervisory Board and three other supervisory bodies were brought together into the FSS in 1999.

Deputy Governor Kang received his B.A. in Political Science and Diplomacy from Kookmin University in 1983 and his M.A. in Business Administration from Sungkyunkwan University in 1987. He also received a M.A. in Economics from Vanderbilt University of in 2001.
